Description

Harry Ascroft was the spoiled son of the Mayor of Bootle who got one of the maids pregnant. This was the prelude to an international sensation, involving some of the strangest personalities of the day, such as the enigmatic William Quilliam, Sheikh of All England, the groceries magnate John Musker who financed Harry Gordon Selfridge, and even distantly connecting to the Dynamitards, forerunners of the IRA. It is also the story of the dogged determination of Nellie Foley, the maid whom he deceived, and the other women in Harry Ascroft's life.
