Longcross Press: Editorial Direction and Background

Academic and professional background

Henry von Blumenthal was educated at Hampshire School, Westminster Under School, and Westminster School, and read theology at Christ Church, Oxford. He was admitted to the Inner Temple.

His professional background includes work in financial and institutional settings in London and internationally, including roles connected with New Japan Securities (Europe), Korea Exchange Bank International, the City of Moscow Treasury, and the European Investment Bank. His work in these contexts was primarily analytical and administrative.

He has also been involved in public service and institutional activity as a member of the Honourable Artillery Company and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, and has served as Director of the Malteser Hilfsdienst (Luxembourg), alongside continuing engagement with historical research, editorial work, and documentary material.

Publishing and editorial work

Longcross Press publishes original works and selected reissues, including titles associated with the historian Charles Arnold-Baker, whose Companion to British History remains in use in academic and institutional libraries.

The imprint operates on a small scale, enabling close editorial oversight and an emphasis on long-term reference value. Distribution is undertaken through established international channels, including academic and library suppliers, with a focus on North American and European research libraries.

Scholarly and institutional associations

Henry von Blumenthal has been associated with a range of historical, cultural, and charitable institutions. These associations do not determine the editorial position of Longcross Press, which operates independently and without political or sectarian alignment.

Editorial principles

The editorial work of Longcross Press is guided by the following principles:

  • reliance on primary sources and documentary evidence

  • restraint in interpretation and tone

  • avoidance of sensational treatment

  • clarity of provenance and citation

  • respect for the historical record

The imprint is intended for reference and research use rather than commentary, and its editorial policies reflect that purpose.
